The advantage of using this rack is that you don’t have to climb on top of a larger vehicle to rack skis and boards. Also, the rack is fully locking, so that your stuff can be secure, and it carries a variety of combinations of boards and skis. The disadvantage of this rack is that depending on your vehicle, so much road muck gets sprayed onto the back of the vehicle, that your skis and boards can get covered in de-icers, such as magnesium chloride, and road salts. If you have a factory roof rack already on your car, the cost associated with mounting a ski/snowboard rack on the factory crossbars is about equivalent to mounting to the rear of the car.
